Happy Bday Rob (12/29)

Click here for video from last year's party...

No Room At the Inn

So on Monday I arrived at 11:30.  Eager to run around and work off 10 days worth of Tofurky and Green Bean Casserole.  Lo and Behold I was the 9th guy.  That's never even come close to happening before.  But, we wrangled everyone together and started playing and even though I wasn't in until the 2nd game, I was already playing by 11:50.

A good amount of games today, I think I only missed recording the results of a couple.  All in all, 16 games in the stats for today.

Here are today's wins and losses:

The avg teammate % in the right column of the above chart indicates the average cumulative winning percentage of all your teammates today.  However, until I've recorded 20 games for any particular player, I normalize your percentage at 50%.  So, this stat is gonna be a little up and down until more games are played.  But, as you can see, Alvin, who was 1-3, got boned because the average historic winning % of all his teammates today was 35%.  No wonder he went home early.  On the other hand, Mike's teammates historic winning % was over 60% today, which is huge.  That means (on average), all his teammates today typically win 60% of the time (hint: he played with Marc & Kenny a lot).

Here are the cumulative wins and losses:

Because nobody asked...

I watch a Metric Fuck-Ton of NBA games.

Here are the teams I like to watch the most...
--------------------------------------
Orlando (love D Howard, Jameer and now also JRich)
Miami (you have to watch them)
Chicago (love D Rose)
Phoenix (If I was unmarried and gay, I'd marry Steve Nash)
Dallas (Dirk & JET & Dirk & JET - get Barea out of there)
Denver (they're talented and every one of them is off his nut)
Portland (need Brandon at 100%)
LAL (hate Kobe, but he's awesome to watch, love Pau)
GS (no one is more fun to watch than Monta Ellis)

Good teams I don't rush to watch:
------------------------------
San Antonio (whiners and fakers - although I do like Tony Parker's game)
Boston (don't like Garnett, can't stand Big Baby or Lil Nate, but I do love Rondo)
Utah & Atlanta (boring and sleep inducing)

Special mention - guys on crappy teams worth watching just for them:
-------------------------------------------------------
Blake Griffin - HOLY CRAP!
Kevin Love - should be an all-star - leads rebounding by 20% over next guy (D Howard)

Monta Ellis is so cool

I'm always amazed how many shots Dave takes/makes without looking at or facing the basket.  Maybe he learned it from one of my fav NBA players, Monta...

Time Capsule - Who played 2 years Ago

Last time I kept the stats for the blog was the fall of 2008.

I kept records during 24 sessions.  Here are the folks who came at least 5 times (>20%).

Two years and it's amazingly similar.  Other than Bob Finch having health issues (that's the Bob in the chart, NOT Accu-Bob) and Jason not coming around anymore, almost everyone else high on the list plays a lot now, along with some new additions that play frequently like: Marc, Kenny, Cy, Dave & Brandon to name a few.

Streaks

Here are the longest winning & losing streaks for each individual player.  Streaks can obviously stretch over more than one day.  If I wasn't lazy, I would have indicated whether the streak was current.  There's always next time.

The Game Winning Shot

This is easily the most corrupted/corruptable stat I generate, because I only keep who made the GWS, I don't track HOW MANY shots they missed before they made the GWS.  There are certainly guys going for the glory who'll heave up any shot they see when it's game-point.  So, this isn't about your shooting % when the game is on the line, simply who made the GWS.

Of course, our leader, Brandon, doesn't fall into the "heave it up" category, as a matter of fact, I don't know that I've seen him miss a shot when the game was on the line.

Below is the chart, it's a little hard to read at first glance.  I haven't been able to record the GWS for each game, so the "games" and "wins" categories don't sync up with the overall totals.  I've got the GWS in 41 of the 54 games played so far.

The first column after your name is GWS made.  Next is games played (where I recorded the GWS), then the % of those games where you hit the GWS.  After that, I show your Wins (where I recorded the GWS) and the % of your wins where you made the GWS.

The reason I do both those comparisons is that you can't make the GWS in a game that your team did not win.  So, for example, Dave has made 3 GWS in 14 games played thus he made the GWS in 21% of the games he played.  However, he only won 8 of those games, so he made the GWS in 38% (3/8) of the games his team won.

Who's Playing

Here's the attendance for the 5 sessions so far.  I keep M/W/F numbers so you can easily see if there are certain days people show up.

That way, if your arch-nemesis is likely to play, you can either bail like a wussy or show up and posterize him.

As you can see, after only 5 days only two of us (Erik & myself) have showed every time.  And only 9 of the 40 have showed at least half the time.  That's why it's hard to predict how many guys are gonna show.  More than half of the 40 have only played once of the possible 5 days.

They need Cy in the Western Conference

The top 3 vote getters at Center for the Western Conf in the All-Star game are:

1. Yao Ming - 5 games played
2. Andrew Bynum - 3 games played
3. Brendan Haywood - Doesn't even start on his own team

Updated Fri Stats

Got a couple of games of data updated from Friday.  Keep in mind that I'll take all the help I can get when there are three courts.  I can easily get all the games with two courts, but three is almost impossible.

However, if you help, the nature of my spreadsheets means that it is only useful if you can tell me every player from both teams and who won (and who made the GWS, if you can remember).  Just telling me that you were 4-1 or that a certain team won 3 in a row doesn't help because of the way I keep everything organized and balanced to make my spreadsheet formulas work.  I need to know all 8 players.

Anyway, here are Friday's W/L, the cums have also been updated.

Amazingly, in the 5 days I've kept stats, there have been 40 different players who have showed up.

I wish some of you prickwads would show up on Mondays or Wednesdays, too.

Tandems

Here are the stats for tandems so far.  Obviously there's not a lot of data so I limited it to guys who have played together at least 5 times...

So, the chart indicates each time any combo of two players play together, their total games, wins and losses, and win %.  So, Erik & Kenny have played together 9 times and never lost.

Strangely, Brad & Steve have played together 6 times and never won.

Brandon is undefeated with everyone, 'cause he's undefeated.

Marc & Kenny are 13-1 together and yet Marc is 3-4 without Kenny and Kenny is 3-7 without Marc.  How's that for playing well together?  Scientists would call it symbiosis.

Let the smack talk begin.

Friday Supplemental

While I missed several games, there were a couple that I actually recorded who was playing, yet I didn't get the outcome.

First was in the middle of the day: Cy, Joey, Brent, Kenny VS. Marc, Al, James, TK

The other was later in the day between two teams with some players that were largely undefeated so I'd be really interested to know the outcome: Jimmy, Al, TK, James VS. Brandon, Brandon, Tony, Erik

If you were in these games and know the outcome, let me know.

No Xmas for Me

As I already wrote, there were games coming out my butt.

Here are the recorded stats for yesterday...

I've managed to have the worst two consecutive days ever, going 1-11 today and 1-7 on Wednesday.  I'm gonna take this opportunity to blame it on Santa.  He needs to give up the rock once in a while AND get back on D.

Here are the cumulative stats... More analysis coming this week because we are off.

Just like Miami....Now & Night of the Living Hoops

Walked into a buzzsaw when I arrived at hoops. The other team had Marc and James on it. It reminded me of the Heat's Wade and LeBron. I was just hoping they played like Miami did at the beginning of the season as opposed to now. No such luck. Our butt was appropriately kicked.

Things got no better for me facing "The Brandons" in several other games... And I got to watch Accupuncture Bob go crazy by making the last four threes in a row to win a game.

All in all it was a lot more fun to witness than it was to try to defend and I lost all day.

There were lots of games today and it'll take me a little while to assemble the stats.

If you weren't there today, you missed 3 courts, lots of talent and playing until 2:45.

I will say things somewhat fell apart at the end and the last game looked like several of the players were zombies from a George Romero movie. I even think I heard Trent mumble, "Brains. Must have brains."

Tons of Folks

3 courts for a lot of today. Fun times, but impossible to keep track of all the games. If you read the blog in the past, you've read about me trying to get all the games recorded. I can't. With games on other courts starting and ending while I'm playing somewhere else, there's no way for me to record all the results. I used to try to have minions help me record the results, but never could get it worked out.

Oh well, the good news is that you winning % when I miss your game should on average be no different than when I don't. So in the long run, your percentages won't be affected, it's just more fun to record all the wins and losses. There are people who came late and left early today that I hardly saw at all.

Inevitably there is some guy whose games I missed who comes up to me and says "I went 7-0, did you get it all?". Of course, there's also some guy who went 0-7 who I missed, he just isn't hoping that I got all his games.

Whatup With Kenny?

Kenny hit lots of 3s today.  And he had another uber-winning day.  It helps to be on Marc's team, but last time Kenny played he won like crazy also (sans Marc).  So he's either lucky or good or both - I'll be nice and vote for both.  Anyway, in the two days he's played since I restarted the stats, he's 14-1.  As you can see from my results, I played against Marc and Kenny all day.

Here are today's results...

Here are the cumulative results...

The gym is closed all next week so Friday is the last day until the 27th.  See ya.

Brandon Goes Off (Rerun)

Small crowd today but good talent and nice games.  Brandon won all six games he played and scored the game winning shot in all those games.

Here are the wins and losses, although you could just replace W & L with PWB & PAB which stand for "Played with Brandon" & "Played against Brandon"...

Here are the cumulative stats since I restarted last week... (remember, just click on any chart to zoom the view).

When I get more data, I'll start reporting some more stats like I used to like Teammates Win %, GWS data, Personal Winning & losing streaks, etc.

Box Score from Wed - Live by the 3

Kept the shooting stats for a game I had to sit out yesterday.  Team 2 won because of their threes.  Didn't keep turnovers or fouls, but there were lots.  Remember that if a player is fouled in the act of shooting and misses the shot, it does not count as a FG attempt.

Rock, Scissors, Paper

Only 11 folks showed for hoops today - the rest of you are on Santa's naughty list.

Lots of parity today as most everyone went 2-2.  Each team beat the other like a game of Rock, Scissors, Paper.

Anyway, Anthony showed, who was the leader in the adjusted power rankings when I used to keep stats.  Just ahead of James, Don, Alvin, Shad and Luke.  You can tell by the names, that the stats don't lie.  As the leaders in the power rankings (and the leaders in the winning %) pretty much indicate who the better players are after enough data has been collected.

You can read the old post about Power Ratings and schedule & teammate strength here...

http://issaquahnoonhoops.blogspot.com/2008/12/power-ratings-i.html

Today was an anomaly however as Anthony only went 2-2.

Here are today's wins and losses...

Here's the total after two days of playing...

Monday's Stats

Ten games were played Monday and below are the results. I'm starting the data over since it's been two years since I stopped doing the blog. I'm sure sometime in the future I'll combine them for "all-time" stats.

You can see that Marc went 3-5. Good thing we were there to see that, he may never have a day under .500 again.

Back in the Groove

Collected all the wins and losses (and some game winning shot data) today.

There were around 15 of us all told at one time or another and we played 'til about 2:15.

Blake played like he was 8'2" with the arms of Plasticman.

Going to Vegas late tonight 'til tomorrow night, so I'll post the stats on Wed.

Utter Confusion & Cy Lords Out

Tried to have the "No One Loses" day and give out scratch-off tickets for each member of a losing team. The problem was that with many unfamiliar faces, guys not knowing what the hell I was talking about and two courts going all day, it was just kind of a bust. Oh well.

Because of the lottery bust and the lots of new faces, I also didn't collect any of the stats for the blog, so it won't be restarted 'til next week.

That's a bummer for Cy, Trent & myself because we played together all day and went something like 7-2. Cy had at least four game-winning shots that I can remember.

Xmas "No One Loses" Extravaganza

So all the little elves at Santa's workshop worked their green butts off to make Friday the first annual "No One Loses" Extravaganza (you know, 'cause it's Xmas).

Each member of each team that is defeated during tomorrow's hoops session will get a little gift from the elves (a.k.a the Washington State Lottery). Thus, No One Loses.

Don't know why the elves chose me to facilitate this, but it's probably not coincidental that I'm short.

C U there.

Oh, and Friday will also be the first day I begin to collect stats again for this blog.

Okay, so maybe "Extravaganza" is a little much, but the elves can be a little dramatic.
